2025, Oh My!

2025 has started off with a bang or maybe I should say a crash! I mean a literal crash while driving my new 2025 Subaru Forrester. Just 2 days into the new year I was driving home from a couple of errands. The backroads in the neighborhood were icy. I slid a bit at the first stop sign I came to. After that I went very s-l-o-w-l-y. I came to the last hill and curve in the road before our condo. I was driving about 10-15 miles per hour. I saw a car coming around the curve and I remember thinking "that car is going WAY to fast". Sure enough the driver loses control and before I know it she has crossed the center line and is headed straight toward me. There was absolutely nothing I could do but hope she got control back. She didn't. It was like watching in slow motion and she hit me head on. Welcome 2025!

Fortunately neither of us was injured. No airbags were deployed. Both cars were banged up but drivable. I found myself thankful BUT also thinking "I was driving so carefully and I don't need this hassle of getting a car fixed"! Turns out my insurance will cover everything since I was not at fault. I have a loner car clause so we will use that benefit as well.

2025 is also going to be big year because on Jan 23 I am going to have surgery. In June of 2024 a second kind of cancer was found in my right breast when a reduction was being performed. After looking more closely it was impossible to conclude for sure that all the cancer was removed. This second kind of cancer is called DCIS and is found in the milk ducts. It is not malignant as long as it stays in the ducts but it can calcify and break out of the ducts causing malignant breast cancer. Since the results of the tests were inconclusive a double mastectomy is recommended.

I am not looking forward to more surgery but am very at peace with the decision to have both breasts removed. I have a wonderful and talented breast surgeon in Grand Rapids and feel like I am in good hands. I look forward to not having to have any more mammograms and getting a new wardrobe!

I hope your New Year is starting out a little calmer than mine! May we all experience many blessings in this coming year!
