A Day in the Life

As I write this blog, it is Friday, May 17, 2024. I thought I would write about my day. I got up around 8:30am after having trouble falling asleep. I think it was just too many things on my mind, upcoming surgery, moving etc. I fell asleep about 1:30am.

I usually get up before Don which I love because I get some time to myself. I made a coffee, cleaned out my email, checked facebook marketplace (I am selling some things) and looked at my social media. I watched a you tube video of a woman and some of her family who hiked to Everest Base Camp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI4WIqPJTZ4 I am a little obsessed with these videos that she and her kids are posting. I wonder why? Something about doing something really hard and making it? For the record, I have no plans to hike to Everest base camp.

I am having coffee with my friend Trish this morning. She lives in our condo complex but I have known her since I moved to Detroit 40 years ago. She is so interesting to talk to and has wonderfully wise advice. Gotta get ready.

Before: short hair is a pain in the morning, I always have to take a shower to tame it!

After: easy, let the hair air dry, no make up just skin care. It is hard to motivate myself to use make up when I have lost eye lashes due to chemo and they still aren't in fully. Add that one to our list of "chemo fun facts".

Coffee with my friend is such a treat. We talk honestly about everything! We give honest opinions on things. We talked about travel, kids, grands, moving, growing up (in particular our mothers), decorating, death, catch up on people we used to work with and more, We are similar ages and both struggle with some physical issues. We have much in common. I love her dearly. I leave after a couple of hours encouraged and positive about life.

Got home and took the perfect nap, just long enough but not too long to make it hard to wake up. I love those kind of naps.

I found a new in the packaging comforter on facebook marketplace a few days ago. It was what I wanted for the GR condo bedroom. I did an image search on google and it listed for $187, the person was asking $25. I had made a plan to pick it up at 3pm.

Don offered to go with me which I appreciated because there is always just a little apprehension when going to pick something up from a stranger. We used google maps and went to a nice area of a neighboring suburb that we had never been to before. The pick up was easy and went without a hitch. I like the comforter and really liked the price.

We ran a couple more errands. We picked up a prescription and I got a bottle of my favorite lotion. I have tried many over the past year and I always come back to Hempz, it rubs in easy and smells great (lots of scents).

When we got home I did my NYtimes word games. I do the crossword (mini), wordle, connections, spelling bee and now strands almost daily. I sometimes text my grand and we compare how many guesses it took for us to get wordle. I think it is good for my brain and really helped me monitor my "brain fog" while under cancer treatment. I don't feel the fog is near as bad as it was.

I worked on a couple more facebook market place listings. We have made over $200 in the last week or so, getting rid of things that we do not plan to move to Grand Rapids.

Here are my last two listings.

Dinner was hot dogs on the grill with baked beans. We had a little Grand Traverse cherry pie left from a mini pie we bought. We got 4 servings out of a mini and served with vanilla ice cream. Yummy!

I got a call from Will and Kayla and enjoyed hearing about their new life in Traverse City! I am visiting on Memorial Day weekend and can't wait.

Evening entertainment was watching MASH on hulu. We are loving streaming MASH. We are on season 5 of 11 seasons so lots more entertainment to come. The writing in that show amazes us.

Went to bed and read for awhile. I started a new book. This is not my usual genre but I loved the first chapter already. I learned about pecan trees and how they produce different amounts from year to year and they all do it together. The author is looking for ways we can learn from plants. She uses the pecan tree to show how we need to work in community. This is a book I read with a highlighter (I own it) to see what wisdom I can take away.

My secret for reading on the regular is to read every night. I also research books before I start to read so I rarely have a book that I end up not finishing. So many good books out there!

I took a rescue sleep capsule because I have had a couple of night of waking up and getting up in the night in order to go back to sleep. Truthfully I kind of forgot I had these. I use Rescue Remedy for times of anxiety and I think it makes a difference. I am happy to report I slept great all night!

That was my day. A pretty great day! Writing it down helped me see how normal and good it was!

Normal - wonder what that looks like? I love your normal. Sounds peaceful. I feel my normal looks different than others. So much chaos and uncertainty in my normal. I’m looking for a NEW normal. Wonder what God has in store for me. 💕
