The End of My Flip Flop Era

I don't know exactly when my love of flip flops started but most of my adult life they were my chosen form of warm weather foot wear. At one point I know I had 28 pairs because I counted when someone asked! I loved going barefoot (still do) and flip flops were the next best thing. Many people say they are bothered by the strap between your toes but that has never been an issue for me. I loved how inexpensive they were and I could easily have a pair for every outfit. As I got older I graduated to a little bit better quality flip flops and my favorite were Havaiana's. They were not cheap but well made and super cute.

They were my grown up version of flip flops.

Flash ahead to present day, post cancer treatment and neuropathy sufferer. Flip flops and any flat bed shoe or sandal are the worst! My feet hurt so badly if I wear flat bed shoes. I have known for sometime that I needed to move on from my flip flop era. I thought maybe I could hang on to a few and have an occasional fling with my flip flops? Nope. Not worth the pain.

I have been listing items on facebook marketplace in anticipation of our move. I decided that I would list my flip flops. I love these flip flops and have such good memories of the times I had wearing them. They are worth something (to me). I spent way too much time soaking and scrubbing them and picking little stones out of the bottom grooves before I listed them. Once I listed them I let go.

Now I had to figure out what could possibly take the flip flops place in my life. I have worn leather birkenstocks with success. Birkenstocks have a orthopedic foot bed. I noticed that they make a less expensive (still expensive) waterproof version of their sandal. I was skeptical that they would not be as supportive as the leather ones. I went to DSW to check them out and try them on. They are great and I now own my first pair of white Birkenstock EVA collection. EVA stands for the synthetic compound that they are made from which is non toxic, shock absorbent, water proof and water and grease resistant.

I am ready to say goodbye to my flip flop era. I am so happy to be alive and cancer free right now. I want all of me to be happy including my feet. Good bye flip flops, we had some good times together!

P.S. Haven't sold a single pair of flip flops on Facebook Marketplace...surprise, surprise! :)
